The Department has a long history of coaching teams for the Jessup International Law Moot Court. The ELTE Jessup Team has recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. In the last decade, the lead coach of ELTE Jessup Teams has been Dr. Gábor Kajtár.
Recent years have seen some outstanding results marked by winning a Third Best Oralist Award by David Surjányi in 2014, and a Second Best Oralist Award by Dániel Pap in 2015 at the International Rounds held in Washington D.C. Our team members have also won twice the award given to the best non-native agent, first Dániel Pap in 2015 and later Barbara Bazánth in 2018. In 2018, the ELTE Jessup Team has also received the Alona E Evans Award for the Best Combined Memorial First Place at the International Rounds.
In April 2019, ELTE Jessup Team became World Champion after defeating Columbia Law School in the finals of the Jessup International Rounds. The team, comprising Gábor Bazsó, Zolta Buda, Marcell Koncsik and Vanessa Szép has already won the European Friendly Rounds. They became only the fourth European team to win the
Jessup Cup (after teams of the UK, France and Russia). Gábor Bazsó was also chosen as Best Final Round Oralist and was awarded the Stephen M. Schwebel Award. The team was coached by Gábor Kajtár and Katalin Sulyok with the help of Dániel Kristóf Pap, former ELTE Jessup Team participant.
